Becici Beach Budva, Serbia and Montenegro
... smoke until our next shower.

In our 4 months of traveling over the last year, this was the first time we took a train ride in a real sleeper cabin. It was a tiny room (6’L x 6’W x maybe 8’ H) with two triple bunk beds. We had the middle two bunks on each side. Two other men had the bunks below us and no one was on the very top. It was cool because the cabin provides us all sheets, pillows with pillow ...
Bar, Serbia and Montenegro mdaa... I'm drifting in and out of consciousness after a night on the bus from hell. It almost feels like I'm back in Europe now, back from the hinterlands. Pudva itself is a construction site, building up faster even than Pristina, much of it Russian money they say, not surprising seeing the penchant for casinos. I'm not sure why I'm here, except that there was a hostel bookable online and I need a ...
Budva, Montenegro hardiek... As aforementioned, Darko strongly disdained mind altering substances, always trying to help me overcome my craving for them. Then, Mladic opened his wallet, showing me photos of his wife and children; he had a very attractive family as portrayed in his wallet sized photos. I think he missed them, perhaps empathizing to the loss I felt being estranged with my own two children for so many agonizing years. Like General Mladic, I possess very few photos of my own children. The ...
Serbia and Montenegro, Serbia lpcyuHE SAID: We ventured to drive to the beach town and old city of Budva about 30 minutes from Kotor. It was an easy drive. It would have been easier if I didnt get pulled over for speeding. I actually thought that I was going less than the posted speed limit which I thought was 80 and I was going 73. Anyway, the cop tells me to get out of the car and walk over to him. He spoke little english and ...
Budva, Bosnia and Herzegovina travelbee... another rundown dump. Then they showed us our room. We had a real queen-sized bed (instead of two single-sized beds pushed together), we had cable TV, air conditioning, a fridge, and a brand new enclosed shower that still had the factory stickers on the sliding doors. Michelle was in heaven. We relaxed for a while in our studio apartment. I watched an episode of Nova where they analyzed an airline crash (awesome). We then walked into town ...
Budva, Montenegro mskinner96... do little more than sit in silence! The border crossing was very quick and easy- the driver seemed to know the guards so that probably made things easier. Montenegro is beautiful. I cant really explain the change in atmosphere, as the scenery is probably similar to Albania, but it just seemed less sparse and depressing (not that Albania's terrible of course) and definitely more of a holiday destination. We drove towards the sea, which was bright blue ...
Kotor, Serbia and Montenegro sarahx... Shortly afterwards I found myself pulling a heavy red plastic kayak out to the launching station on the beach. The day was brilliant: the sky was a fantastic blue, without a cloud in the sky. The deep azure of the sky was matched by the rich green of the Adriatic, which despite the distance I paddled from the shore, never ceased being crystal clear. The weather was incredibly hot, as it had been for most of my journey, but the cool water that ...
Budva, Serbia and Montenegro still_a_float... of teeth. So it's probably a good thing that this guidebook doesn't have ears. It might not want to continue along with me if it did. I haven't done a proper survey of my own work, but I write and think about my guidebook enough that it may as well be a real companion that we're travelling along with. He's got some good advice, but he's also just as prone to faults as the next guy. I take advice with a seasoning of salt, but when I hear false information I ...
Kotor, Serbia and Montenegro fatduck... installed eons ago by a well meaning but by no means aesthetically interested city leadership. Bars and clubs dish out round after round of suds to weighty but scantily clad patrons whose skin sticks to their plastic beach seats. In the background, thumping bass beats blare out, seemingly throbbing in time with the rhythmic pulses of the searing sun. In short, our version of hell on a beach. Further north, the crowds have by no means thinned out on the same miserably uncomfortable ...
Budva, Serbia and Montenegro stevecori... gorgeous and a perfect day...bright sun, blue sky, sparkling water, and warm but not too hot. We hope that tomorrow will be nice again so that we can enjoy the scenery on the road from here to Split. I am really amazed at the amount of tourism here. The place is teeming with English speaking tourists, lots and lots of Germans, some French, and various other nationalities. Waitstaff in restaurants (minus the place last night) speak excellent English and seem to speak ...
