Historical Traveler Reviews Beachgate CondoSuites and Motel Port Aransas
I was "surfing" your site to try and find the hotel we stayed at in March of 2002 so I could recommend to a friend. It turned out to be the Beachgate and I decided to read some of the reviews. I have to agree with the Managers response to the people from Canada who found the place so deplorable. Who in their right mind who found these many problems would not complain in person? We shared our 3 bedroom condo with 2 other couples we travel with on occasion and all found the accomodations quite enjoyable and relaxing.
I would have to say that you posting of the complaint from those people a bit irresponsible.
A Family Oriented Stay!
Wow... what a fabulous stay! New Years Eve bonfire event on the beach - a family oriented event... Trips to the beach during the day with a crate full of beach toys available from the management for our three children (7, 8 and 10) - they love digging through the treasures of toys to choose what we will take to play with... Questions answered about what else to see and do always answered by the management - with initiative to even help plan for our older boys (15 and 17) to take a fishing trip... On our last night my daughter sang in a family oriented karaoke at the outdoor picnic area that was from 9 to 9:45pm on a Friday night - with Christian music and families gathered to enjoy hot cocoa (and the children were so excited seeing the other guests enjoying themselves, other than one guest who came to squelch and ruin the entertainment that was being provided by my daughter 10 and another girl who was 12 - singing their little hearts out... I think that person was confused about the fact that quiet hours didn't start until 10pm - the girls were upset that someone was complaining since it was still so early, but were happy to accomodate the managements suggestion to lower the volume a little, even though the couple who complained refused to close their door and windows (or at least wait until the 10pm quiet hour). Ah well! We are definitely looking forward to going back to Beachgate again!!!!
Not a Good Experience
We spent a week at the Beachgate recently and overall we were not pleased. I'll say this: it is close to the beach and the rooms are adequate and it is fairly economical. However, we were disappointed in management's lack of concern for the comfort of their guests with regard to the noise level. A few nights a group of "kids" (early 20's) partied loudly late into the night, leaving their cigarette butts and beer bottles all over. Our last night there, we were awakened by a rather loud karoke party that appeared to be hosted by management. When I asked if they could lower the volume so we could sleep, I was treated rudely and dismissively and asked "How many hours of sleep do you need?" and "What?? Do you have the windows open?" If you are looking for a place that is close to the beach and decent, stay here. If you want to stay somewhere you can enjoy the tranquility of being lulled to sleep by the sounds of the waves, feel the breeze through your window, and feel as though your patronage is valued, keep on looking. This ain't it! Will we be back? No chance.
Wonderful Place to Stay
Beachgate was a fabulous place to spend a week. We had 8 people with us 4 adults and 4 kids all under 6. We were amazingly comfortable in a two bedroom condo. The kitchen was outstanding. We were on the first floor and still had a spectacular view of the ocean. We loved the barbecue grills that were provided for us. The staff was absoulutely wonderful and accomodating. We had a simply amazing time. Thank You Beachgate!!
We will definitely be back!!

BEACHGATE IS A BLESSING!!!!!
We feel God led us here so we could be by the Gulf. Oh the joy of seeing all that water! Thank you, Joe, for making it possible to spend these three days here at your restful place..........Thanks!
This Shabby "luxury" beachhouse was dirty (pet Feces on carpet),
dangerous (railings on balcony were rotten and too low), unkept (doors
and windows were delapitated and unsightly), Interior was retro 70's,
the back windows looked down into a repair garage built over the rear
windows of the house (full of junk), cockroaches were found inside.
Just gruesome and the price was $372 per night. There should be laws
against offering a dump like this while calling it a luxury beachhouse.

It was pitch black where we were. But before I could start looking at the lights above me, I noticed an unnatural looking green glow below. With every step I took there was a short lived neon green glow in the seaweed. Was this some wierd nuclear spill from ...

After a brief time, we continued on our way to the main area. This is where the professionals were working. I was kind of disappointed since they all were still sculpting. Guess tomorrow is when they will be finished. I think they are working throughout the night to finish them, but I think I got some good pictures anyway.

After dinner, we stuck around for a couple of hours for visiting. I played a couple of games of FARKLE and Bob visited with Larry Gordon.
Now it's time to relax and get ready for bed. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day starting with breakfast, then a membership meeting.
