... for the prospect of lugging our bags any further that day would have seemed hellish. First world problems hey? At the hostel we were introduced to the manager, an Australian guy called Colin and an American guy who worked there as well called Danny. They were all very welcoming and far, far nicer than the people who worked at the hostel in Sydney. ... The sun was shining down on the estuary and sandbanks below us, and the turquoise water of the ocean all combined to take your breath away as you marvelled at one of nature's wonders! We were loathe to leave when we did, but had arranged to meet Jim and Vivienne by lunchtime, so after our morning Latte, and a last look at the estuary as we leaving, we said goodbye to Nambucca Heads!

... We had some lunch in town, then drove out to Hat Head, and the view from the Gap. We called into Danielle and Anthony's on the way back and had coffee with them. While we were there, I think the temperature went up about 10 degrees, the wind changed, and some of the cloud cleared. It had not been cold all day, but it certainly warmed up. Back at camp, the wind had settled, and it was still quite warm. We just had a quiet night. We are leaving here to tomorrow and moving further ...

We left Maitland reasonably early, for us, because we wanted to make the most of our next stop, Port Macquarie. It's plain sailing from Maitland to the Gold Coast and all our next stops are just off the Pacific Hwy, so the roads at least for todays travel were pretty good. The climate is becoming more tropical north of Newcastle, and the vegetation is reflecting that with mangroves lining the rivers and inlets. We have also been seeing wildlife crossing over the Pacific Hwy, for possums ...
