... we headed over the hills to a headland overlooking St. George's beach. The walk was down to bay called pirates cove. It started high on the headland and climbed steeply down, following an old donkey path. The cove looked a lot like a smaller version of Phi Phi island in Thailand. A narrow strip of land connected it to the headland, and on each side the pebbly beaches looked out towards the calm, clear Mediterranean. We walked across the beach and ...

... case someone slipped and sent him rolling down the cobblestones.
We watched the bands march through the town, finally congregating in front the Lindon cafes. Here they stood in the rain and played in turn, then marched back into the city. The whole occasion was watched over by a large crowd of Greeks, both from Corfu and the mainland, who braved the rain and cheered the bands. It was definitely worth getting out of bed for. ...

... menu had yet to be printed out, so we it was handwritten on scraps of paper. It was half 9 by now and the place had started to fill up, people were being turned away, which is always a good sign. We ordered mezze; pork and leek sausages, stuffed red peppers, pork knuckle, smoked pork and fig salad and mushroom stifado. Not a meal you'd get in the middle east ! Every plate was delectable, but the pork knuckle was the hero of the night. it ...
