Dubai- another world entirely

A travel blog entry by that_crazy_one

I went out to Dubai to visit a friend of mine and also my partner (at the time) who had a weeks leave on his navy deployment. It was a completely spontaneous decision that required an awful lot of overtime to pay for (I only decided three months before I went) It is also where my story starts, my first holiday on my own as a grown up and where I …

Head in clouds and not in sky yet

... and I can turn my back now on the crazy 6 hour marathon dance with Navman whose downloadable Western European GPS maps stripped me of my google browser and gmail. I managed to get my $89 refund from the American online help supposedly in New Zealand and will now happily pay the extra £7 a week for gps in my hire car in Manchester. Leaving tonight from Adelaide to Dubai - songbooks, camera and watercolours packed. Will miss you all - stay tuned Christina ...

... and beating them at FIFA.. Whaaaat!). Ended up staying at one of their flats instead of my hostel because it was a lot closer to the uni. Didn't meet a single person who didn't smoke, didn't find the place excruciatingly boring, and who didn't know someone with at least a Bentley! For all the money that is there though, there was nothing but respect and friendliness from them all. Other than generally relaxing in the sun and speaking to people from pretty much ...

... people getting out of beanbags).

  • Had a poor meal tonight- thought it was cheap and cheerful. It was neither! Consoled ourselves with a Mars bar and a alcohol-free beer.
  • Did you know moment - the lift at the Burj Khaliffa takes less than 60 seconds to go up 124 floors.

Tomorrow - a trip to Abu Dhabi, and then at silly o'clock on sunday, we fly to Colombo.

Cheers peeps - Dave and andy.

We then went to the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, over 820 metres high,I took some awesome photos here. It wasn't quite as scary as I thought it would be. Back in Dubai mall we went to a Chinese restaurant and enjoyed a sweet and sour chicken dish ...

The Auris was wonderful. Very clean and well maintained. The staff were fantastic, they could not do enough to please you. It was very easy to book all our tours in the lobby. The location is also very good. It is right next to the Emirates Mall and the metro station and a fairly short taxi ride away from everything else.
