After visiting a shop in one of these caves, I can see why -- it was several degrees cooler inside, and quite comfortable. Most of the cave-homes have a manmade outer wall with a normal door, and they seem to be furnished like any other traditional home in the area (from what I could surmise by glancing in through open doors).
