... was an absolutely amazing ancient complex that housed a city and a fortress all on the side of an enormous cliff. You will see, I took quite a few pictures. It was also even more climbing than the 999 stairs from the morning. We then made another strategic error by over-ruling Google maps for the shortest trip between Sparta and Kalamata. Apparently Google's re-route was to avoid the highway from hell that puts Colorado's mountain drives to absolute ...

We drove south of Koita today to experience the desolate landscape of inner Mani. Our afternoon day consisted of Vathia, Mountanistika and Leontakis. These are deserted remote towns with only a few people living there. They all have stereotypical architecture of the Manh/Mani region with boxed shaped buildings and towers made entirely of stone and terra cotta roofs. Even the streets, fences, balconies and decks are all made out of stones. Mountanistika ...

We woke up today at around 9am and packed. Tina cut some fruits and halved a pastry we bought last night at a local pastry shop for our breakfast. Then our journey to inner Mani began. We drove to three small town on our way: Itilos, Limeni, and Areopoli. Out of all of these towns, Areopli was the biggest (size of King city North of Toronto?) But the most beautiful has to be Limeni. Limeni has a bay ...

          ... HOW TO COME HERE:

From Athens is approximately 3 hours.

If you are in Sparta (20 minute drive from
here) it is advisable to visit Mystras first and then come here to spend the
entire afternoon…swim first and then go for some fish and ouzo.

Don’t miss visiting the Caves of Diros which is
another interesting place to visit ….only a 30 minute drive from here as well.

... of hippopotamus bones in Europe!

The colours, shapes and crystal formations were quite breath taking.

We ended the day anchoring a little further along the coast in a place called Limeni, going ashore and celebrating John's birthday at a fantastic little restaurant that was situated in a restored customs house. As the sun went down over the two kiwi boats at anchor it truly was a birthday for John to remeber.
