We were sad to leave Chania but there is more to see in the eastern part of Crete too! We ended out stay with a visit to the Archeological Museum and then set off for our return 3 hour trip to Iraklion. We were greeted like old friends returning to our hotel which was our home for the next 6 nights.

We had dinner at Peskesi for Bob's birthday. The restaurant specializes in ancient recipes of Crete. Grilled pork with sun dried tomatoes and grilled mushrooms ...

Back to Greece again. Heraklion, capital of Crete, second biggest island in the eastern Med. We are amazed at the size - 650,000 resident population. Switch from Turkish Lira, back to Euro's again. Before we left Mamaris last night went to the duty free in the excellent Port Service Center (Port of Istanbul could learn a lot from Mamaris). Duty Free had an excellent selection of European wines, at very low prices in €. Low on ...

It is more comfortable and our cabin larger than I imagined. We sailed to Patmos yesterday and spent the afternoon there. I went on an excursion to the monastery of St John the Evangelist and saw where he is supposed to have written the book of Revelation. There was even a niche in the ...

... but to visit town and see what we may.

Off the ship, we walk – the city, Aghios Nikolaos, Greece (St. Nicholas), is clearly a tourist destination from all over Europe and the rest of the world. Quaint with strikingly blue water. Looking into the water can be a mesmerizing experience – the fish, the sea bottom, the clear blue waters are calling me…but alas….not possible to swim here ...

We flew to Crete from Athens yesterday morning on Aegean Airlines. A quick 40 minute flight. They literally ran up the aisle, tossing everyone a lolly followed by a cookie and then announced we were beginning our descent into Heraklion. Short and sweet! Our first stop was a tour of the Palace of Knossos and lots of history about the Minoan civilisation. I was a bit disappointed in the Palace. Not as much to see as I thought there would be. Our ...
