Spent most of the day on the tour bus. It is a long drive from Berlin to Amsterdam. The bus stopped outside Amsterdam so we could watch a Cheese and clog demonstration. The Dutch man was very funny. I was like a kid in a candy shop with so much to look at and take in. It was really rather surreal, the buildings, the tiny streets, canals and my god bikes, bikes and more bikes. You have to have your wits about you so you don't get hit by a bike. Of course if it's not the bikes, it's remembering to look left before you cross the road so you don't get hit by a car. ... charming and inviting, people everywhere. We took the tram to our flat and - had a nap. This must be why most people backpack when they're 20! We are getting old! ... this fantastic stay, we got up very early to ensure we were the first in the queue, normally 100s long, for the Anne Frank museum. Such an amazing story from an incredible young woman and such a shame after 8 years in hiding she was caught and died, only a month away from freedom. It's a moving experiencing walking through the few rooms hidden behind a bookshelf and listening to the stories told by Anne, her surviving father and her friends.
