Sat 25th: Had several maps and so much to explore that we didn't know where to start! Bastian, our host, suggested we drive to Lake Bohinj west of Bled where we climbed up to the waterfall at Savica. On our way back we stopped at Cesnjica for very ...

We headed downtown for dinner and on the way back discovered a movie theatre. It was exciting for us to learn that most of the movies are in English with Croatian subtitles. Day one went well I feel!

Hangover-free somehow (all will be revealed), my Irish pal and I ventured to the bus station where we had THE BEST coffee ever (for bloody €1.40 no less, too) whilst waiting for my bus. 1 hour 20, €6 and a lot of confusion later ("This stop??" "No, England! Sit!"), I arrived in Bled. It's North West of ...

... at this spot. We stopped in the town of Kobarid and visited the WWI museum that documents the battle of the Soca Front named after the Soča river that winds it's way through the area. Slovenia was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, and at the beginning of WWI, Italy was neutral. About a year later, Italy declared war against Germany and by default, Slovenia. Nothing much happened until 1917 when the Italians waged a few successful battles. The Germans decided to wage ...
