This incident happened last Satuday so it is out of sequence by several days. However that doesn't matter, it is happening everyday, we just were "in it" on Saturday!

What, you ask? Venice's aqua-alta (high tide flooding).

It happens at this time of year due to the exceptionally high tides. The water just rises, up over the walls and continues in over piazzas, up stairs and into shops ...

... BEST gelato ever. It was amazing. By far the best we had had. We also stopped at a few shops to check out the glass items. We then passed the Louis Vuitton one more time… and what do we find? St. Marco’s! We stayed in the square until we had to leave to meet the others for dinner. Finding the pasta place was another adventure, but at least we had a map this time. The pasta was very good. ... didn’t have to battle the massive queues.

One of the small touches that made a huge difference was the priority service in the elevators. If we swiped our Yacht Club cards, the elevators skipped all other floors and went directly where we wanted to go (great for us, but no doubt aggravating for the rest of the seething masses who we came to call the ‘plebs’, 'heathens' or 'philistines').

Heading north again we stopped off at one the many lakes in northern Italy, Lago Garda. This is where the locals come to take their holidays, a nice lake but nothing amazing. We saw Doge's Palace (one of Venice's political and judicial hubs) and the Torre Dell'Orologio (a clock tower built between 1496 and 1506).
