Island Hopping in Venice
... half hour, you have to wonder if this might be an economical decision to extract the $. After all, everybody had already either bought a ticket or travel pass.
By the time I reached F de Nuove, this time opting to walk from there instead of the long ride back, it was almost 6pm. It was interesting to wander this part of the island, and returned back to the hostel to meet new folks before we headed out to dinner and my first pizza in Italy. Yum!

Venice Wandering
... Fizzy and served chill, a great deal at 2.20 euro and another Italian item we tried. Then we splurged a bit on lunch, eating at a restaurant with tables outside overlooking the Grand Canal. The tourist menu was pretty decent considering it included the service charge and cover charge, but unfortunately not overly filling. As the train rolled towards this city on the water, you can't help but love it right away. Canals take over from the roads and the water is actually not that bad. The pedestrian areas are pretty neat to walk around and wander in. Days 306 to 308 - Romancing the Lagoon
... visit as was the rest of Venice.Our Gondalier said that the water level was historically low and in fact if it continued this could cause a problem as many of the canals are not that deep.
The city is attempting to manage along an incredibly fine line between too much and too little water (there is an elaborate gate system being constructed to attempt precision control) not to mention the daunting task of maintaining the crumbling infrastructure ...
Day 2
... OK. After lunch visited the Scuola San Rocco, which is located behind the Frari. It contains many huge Tintoretto paintings, and is considered by some to be his "Sistine Chapel". Again, no photos allowed, but John got a couple before he was reprimanded. There were some awesome woodcarvings in there as well.
