... views looking down on the city but out into the bay. the fortress ruins are open for you to wander and are in serious decay but still evident enough for you to get an idea of the scale of the fortress when it was complete.

I managed to squeeze three days in here - with two little side trips (see Budva and Perast) and it was so relaxing that I'm sure I could of easily spent a week here.
Kotor, Serbia and Montenegro travellingjen... the Montenegro border. Montenegro is completing the process of splitting from Serbia. While it is still drizzling, the bay around which we are driving is beautiful with high hills and interesting villages. Like many of the bus stations on my future stops, it is what one would envision a 3rd world station to look like with minimal maintenance for decades and few amenities. No luggage room. My original thought was to spend the night here and the following day at one ...

Podgorica, no. Euro, yes! Pogorica, Yes! Yes! Yes!" He smiled, put his thumb up, and looked like he had won the lottery. That was the extent of his English but that "Podgorica Yes" was all I need to hear. Evidently a few Euros changed hands as a bribe to let this taxi ...
Kotor, Serbia and Montenegro atlpilot368/23/2009 sunday

Water blog-

Water always seems too plain to drink to me. I am usually running on a pretty dehydrated state. When Lawrence offers me water, I usually accused him of drowning me.

But whenever I am in Europe, I always feel like a fish out of the water! I am always dying of thirst. Can it be the fact we are traveling Europe during the summer and its warm, the extra walking, or is it the 20 time the alcohol consumption I ...
Kotor, Montenegro marychi... Then we made the long drive back to the hotel. We had the usual dinner at which time Bojana was overcome with a terrible toothache. I told her I'd pay for the filling tomorrow; Darko knew a dentist 10 meter from Kosovo's border. Tomorrow we'd swim there and have Bojana's tooth looked at. The town we went to the next day possessed an ethnic Albanian majority and organized crime was everywhere. Before retiring for the evening I went for a small walk around the corner from the ...

Kotor, Serbia and Montenegro ulka... service in Ukraine and were taking a month to travel around the Balkans before heading home. Kotor is a beautiful town set in a fjord and surrounded by mountains. The main attraction is the old fortress that was built up into the mountainside. The part on the relatively flat ground, the Old Town, is still in working condition with lots of restaurants, shops, and apartments, while the part built up on the hill is now a collection of ruins. My favorite ...
Kotor, Serbia and Montenegro laura1... to see rain in the forecast. So on that advice, we decided to stick it out and signed up for some whitewater rafting later that afternoon. After lunch, we headed back to our room, siked about our upcoming adventure of rafting in the canyon, wondering what would unfold. We were unable to get much info about what to expect, due to the language barrier, but we knew this park was known for rafting, so we were excited to be doing it. We were picked up by the ...
Kotor, Serbia and Montenegro trg7... small strip of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Pauly and I went to a pebble beach with a Kiwi, Shane, and had beers, sunbaked, and enjoyed a hot summer afternoon by clear but cold water. I'm in a very relaxed mood at the moment, and can see myself staying that way until I leave the continent. Being busy all the time has been great in the first 90% of the trip, but now I need some chill time, and what a great place to spend it. Pauly informed me that he has not had a night off the booze since he ...
Dubrovnik, Croatia tcorrea... when checking out the fortress of the old town (Stari Grad) of Kotor. When we arrived at Kotor the first thing we saw was the fortress on top of the mountain - Albert instantly decided that he wanted to climb it (as usual). I've seen enough of ruins and old castles for a few days so spent the time on the internet. He estimates that the mountain is about 600m - so climbed from sea level to 600m above on thousands of steps. It was a hard climb but well worth it ...
