Brasov
A cute town (to be fair, anything is cute compared to Bucharest) located close to Bran - and the castle that is associated with Dracula, even though he never lived there and only may have raided the surrounding area during his reign. Nonetheless, it is thought that this is the castle described by Bram Stoker in his 1897 classic. [Brasov has a really lovely medieval centre, and was itself sacked by Vlad Tepes ...
Climbing a mountain
... probably not blood sucking) so every tiny cobbled road we took was lined with every piece of Dracula merchandise you could imagine. We visited the museums, climbed the clock tower, visited the church looking over the town and then decided after about two hours that we wanted to get away. Why? There were too many tourists and everywhere we looked there were beautiful mountains that were just asking to be climbed.

Ode to Sighisoara

Saturday we plan to take a hike up one of the hills around the city, up a long winding road to a famous hotel/restaurant, Villa Franka, that offers breathtaking views of the whole valley. Stay tuned for that!
Other coming attractions: barbecue with some old friends, a trip to Tirgu Mures, a week-long trip to Brasov, and the prospect of a family visit next weekend for the finale of the Medieval festival!
