... pro Ortega. Anyone still following?
Many I talked to in Leon tended to be anti-Ortega. Maybe they were slightly wealthier and also had more access to multiple channels of information. But they believed that Ortega is only pretending to be a socialist and really is siphoning off funds and is too in bed with Chavez. Allegedly Ortega buys Petroleum from Chavez at 20% below the world trade price and sells it for 20% above to the people. No one knows where the ...
After returning from the islands, we headed into Granada. Granada is perhaps the most tourist-oriented town in Nicaragua, and from what we've seen so far, for a good reason. The town center is composed of very pleasant, colonial-style buildings, and is quite pretty. I'm looking forward to exploring it in the next few days.
For this ...

... on fire and the soles of my feet burning from my exertions, and it certainly got the adrenaline pumping. Furthermoe, fear sweat is much more enjoyable than tropical heat sweat - there's nothing like a good dose of terror to make you feel alive inside! Maybe next time I'll take up a balcony position and record other people's terrified expresions for posterity, because its quite hard to capture this stuff when fleeing an enraged, 400lb toro! But then again, where's the fun in that?!!

So, a friend from my program, Laina, and I decided to go to Nicaragua for the weekend. Most of the other people had gone during Semana Santa, but Laina and I hadn't. The capitol of Nicaragua is Managua. However, we'd heard that it was fairly dangerous and that there was a lot to see in Granada and it took less time to get to than Managua.

Granada, Nicaragua cristinitaIts arrived! It is cup of tea / wine time for you all. Mark here, and i shall try and pick up where Becca left off. So, firstly we are both now qualified divemasters! It took one week longer than expected due to us both getting some form of unpleasant tropical disease, kind of frustrating but ultimately not that big a deal, there really are worse places to get stuck! In this final week Becca dropped the camera in the sea (but its ok as we have a back up ...
Granada, Nicaragua barkmecca... into the trees and bushes, that Daniel Ortega should declare them the National Flower! They simply do not seem to notice or care about the blight growing steadily around them. They need to change or they will be swimming in it in a few more years. One last note regarding Taxis. A recent article in La Prensa stated that there were 742 assaults in taxis in the year 2008 according to the National Police. That is just about 63 a month! or 2 a day. Initially, I ...

Granada is an abolutely beautiful colonial town in Nicaragua that is way to touristy to even begin to explain. Itīs been described as Antigua 8 years ago. There are cool things to do and see there, of course, but the town itself is full of bohemian ex-pats. All the ...
