Ochi Day in Greece and Musical Goats!

Today was a public holiday (see yesterday's entry) and everything was closed except the cafés which were doing a great business. The sun was out for a lot of the day too.

The school kids were out in force again with their marching and drumming and having a great time. There were priests and lots of dignataries laying wreaths and then more marching and drumming through the lined streets. It was quite moving to see.

We love the Greeks. They ...

The scenery is quite spectacular and not how I imagined a Greek Island!

At one road junction we came across a Greek man selling fruit from the back of his truck. He came over to the car and was keen to chat with us telling us his wife was from Sydney. He then insisted we go and look at his fruit. He told us he came from six generations of farmers on Naxos.

Naxos was a wonderful choice for our first Greek island experience. With accommodations 150m away from the beach and 200m away from the town's main promenade, we were perfectly positioned in Chora. What bliss.

Beyond the town lies greater Naxos: tiny villages ...

We share a great meal and then head off through all the lanes if shops and look around. We head into a bar and enjoy cocktails, it's a bit strange sitting in a bar with the kids but they have their mocktails or virgin cocktails as they are referred to here. It is a perfect summers night and the moonlight shining on the water is quite ...

... for dinner, food was ok, but not as tasty as we have been having. The stuffed squid was the best, it sort of exploded when cut Into and was actually filled with feta , so very runny, but super tasty and very fresh squid. They gave us a complimentary shot glass of the citron liquor as well, although this was extremely rough and very hard to drink, smelt like methylated spirits......... I certainly battled, but gave it my best ...
