    ... was discovered during WWII while they were digging for .....something!? Not too terrible exciting. We did have a chance to meet Stefan's mom at the museum- that was cute! Of course no English! Our last stop with our sack lunches was at a Russian Church - one of only two in Bulgaria. It was stunning! Then it was back on the bus for a four hour drive.     We decided to explore a bit further south and have a look at Sozopol. It's another ancient town, but not a World Heritage site like this one. Took about an hour to drive there - managed to resist the temptation to stop in Burgas this time - and arrived in one piece despite some of the dreadful driving we saw.

    The weather looks much better today thank goodness.

    Good omlette for breakfast, and then set off to walk around Old and New Nessebar, the old town is out on this promontory across a causeway from the mainland and the new bit. And they are very different.

    ... but made tolerable by the fast new road and we were in Burgas after a cloudy, rainy two and a half hours.

    I guess the the weather did Burgas no favours, but the beach was long and sandy and the gardens along the seafront made for a pleasant stroll to the pedestrianised main street.
