but no pillow case. So I joined the next Duck Truck penguin tour tonight to go and see the famous penguin parade of Phillip Island. And in passing I can very highly recommend the Duck Truck tours: they are run by the people who run Amaroo Park, the youth hostel and camping/cabin park in Cowes and are great fun and excellent value, with free cat cuddles thrown in for those who like that sort of thing. Dinner of roast lamb and bread & butter pudding was followed by a fond farewell to the lo...
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia emconnolly2000We spent Christmas in Cairns. Christmas Day was nice, sunny and warm and we drove into Rainforest in a rented car. Spectacular views in the rainforest with quite a different flora and fauna. I must say that Kalyani and I were surprised that Varun, Kiran brought Christmas gifts for us and put it under a pretend Christmas tree (a plant in our hotel room). BTW, it was quite an experience riding on the wrong (left) side of the road. Varun, Kiran and Kalyani were trained to scream at me to keep le...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia ppattaniOur apartment (at Amaroo at Trinity) was on the 2nd floor with views across the esplanade to the ocean. Apart from a short trip out to the shopping mall to pick up some basic provisions, we spent the morning at the apartment and around the pool. Being in the tropics, it was hot and humid. It threatened rain (they get an awful lot of that here at this time of year) but it never came to much. In the afternoon we drove up the coast on the Captain Cook Highway (its not just New Zealand where ref...

Hi everyone!
Well, this week is our final week in Cairns. Brian finishes up with KPMG Cairns on Friday, and returns to the Wollongong office on Monday, so we are trying to make the most of our final days in tropical northern Queensland!

Last weekend was jam packed! On Friday night, Brian went fishing with some of the guys...they didn't catch much but had a good time getting out regardless. I accompanied Bre to a soccer party (she plays on a couple of teams ...
Trinity Beach, Queensland, Australia jillsutherland... we all woke up the next morning to get some breakfast and then head down to Sydney Harbour, where we partook in the typical tourist activities of viewing the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. I have to say...beautiful! Sydney is a gorgeous city and I am excited to check out again when we're back in NSW!

So as I was saying...Cairns. We were picked up from the airport by Bre (pronounced Brie and actually short for Breanna), one of Brian's coworkers, with whom we'll be ...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia frechdaxxx... enthusiasm.
When we got back from Kakadu we all went for dinner on the pier which was busy and had a nice atmosphere, it was canteen style dining with lots of different food options. We sat outside and I fed the fish some leftovers.
So taken by the fish feeding I went to do this the next day too, but at a fish centre by the sea. After this we walked to the museum. You might not know that Darwin has an interesting history, it was bombed in WWII by the Japanese and it ...

What did you call it? Susan: In the UK, they're called off licences, because they have a licence to sell alcohol to be consumed off the premises, as opposed to pubs, where they have an on licence. Steve: Right. In Australia, we call them bottle shops. Because they're shops. That sell bottles.
Cairns, Queensland, Australia suzloua... enough for a liveaboard, but definitely much smaller than the SSD boat we had in the Similian Islands in Thailand. We were so spoiled by the conditions, the aquatic life and the boat we were on in the Similan Islands that we found ourselves constantly comparing diving in the Barrier Reef to our experience on the Similans. Unfortunately, there was a bit of buyer's remorse. The Kangaroo Explorer schedule provided for six dives a day, with a maximum of four dives. The procedures ...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia chiapoe... gased up and started towards Rockhampton. There doesn't appear to be as much flooding through here. Saw a kangaroo sitting on the side of the road watching us as the road kill around here are the roos. The eucalyputus trees are plentiful and with it being so damp you can smell them in the air. I really like the smell so was pleasantly pleased. There are alot of termite nests everywhere as they build them on the sides of the trees and look like wasp nests but ...
