Today we had booked a tour to the Parque Nacional de Tierra del Fuego. As instructed we waited in the freezing cold for a bus to pick us up. After an hour of waiting, we were beginning to wonder what was going on. The flat we are staying in is linked to a guest house on the next street and Joan just happened to se a man come out and get in his car …

Today we had booked a trip to see the wildlife on the Beagle Channel. Joan has always wanted to visit Ushuaia since watching the Voyage of the Beagle on the TV in the 1970s. She has always been interested in Captain Robert Fitzroy who funded Darwin's trip on the Beagle. Peter Nicholls' book Evolution's captain is a very readable account of this …

The flat is about 5-10 minutes from the main street. There were more glamourous cabins and cabins to let but all of …

Bit od a long haul. We caught a taxi to Chesterfield Coach station and a coach on to Heathrow via London Victoria. The baggage allocation for the flight from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia was a mere 15 kg so our bags were the lightest they have ever been and we wore all our thick coats and jumpers and walking boots to keep down the weight.
      The flight …

      Ushuaia - Fin Del Mundo

... we decided to chance our luck on a flight to Ushuaia (pronounced "Oosh-why-a"). So we disembarked at Calafate airport just before the town. Here we purchased tickets to the iconic city and three and a half hours later we arrived in Ushuaia, otherwise known as Fin del Mundo, (the end of the world), on the southern tip of Argentinian Patagonia.
At 54* 48' 34" South latitude, Ushuaia is the world's southern most ...
