... is like leaving a hug concert with all sorts of people trying to leave at the same time. The bikes however get priority and the cops often hold traffic to let the cyclist pass.

We got back to the hotel around 8. We did a quick Alps ice bath then headed to dinner then bead. These days are starting to blur together. This is trip has been wonderful but also exhausting. Tomorrow will be our last day of riding as we ascend the famous Alpe du Huez. It will be a long but crazy ...

... for our ice bath but it was late and we still needed to have our evening meeting and eat dinner. Each night we would meet for about 15-20 minutes. Peter Thompson, the owner of the tour group, would review the next day’s itinerary and review the climbs for the following day. When discussing climbs Peter often refers to a climb as, “a wee bump” (said in a thick Scottish accent). We have learned that what Peter thinks is a “wee bump” usually means at ...

... by the altitude, only tired from a long day of climbing.

After eating some lunch it was time to head back down the way we came, fortunately the majority of this was down hill. We stopped at the little restaurant to use the facilities. The French do not like you using their bathrooms so Ray, Rich and I ordered cokes and a nutella crepe. After ordering we then realized the bathroom was out of order!

... day with 7,200 feet of climbing. Overall
I feel pretty good on the rides. In Austin Rich, Ray and I had been riding at a
much harder intensity and climbing much steeper hills. We don’t have the length
by any means but so far it seems to have paid off. I think tomorrow will be a
test as we are climbing the mighty Col de Galibier.

I wish I could post pictures but the Wi-Fi is extremely
slow. I will save all my pics and add them in at a later time.

    ... persistence and survival.

Ultimately I made it, absolutely shagged, but I was still standing unlike a stack of others who were on the roadside collapsed.

I met up with Chris at the finish, he didn;'t make the time cut on Glandon and was ferried back to the finish by bus....not happy.

So that's the Etape for another year....not so sure about doing this again. This experience was enough.
