Well after frantically getting the house in order, working an extra day at work, we finally are at the airport. Only to realize that I forgot my camera! Then the plane is delayed to fix the A/C. They finally announce that it will be an hour at least before boarding. So Dan ran home to get the camera. Thank heavens! Even small miracles are wonderful!
... Much worse.
After lunch in Cherokee, on the other side of the Smokies, we drove into North Carolina, our 12th state this trip. Late afternoon, we made it to Lulu's brother's house just outside Charlotte and then had dinner with him and his wife Lisa in Charlotte.
After dinner, we drove on for another half hour to Kannapolis.
... end. He never questioned the Hospice people being at the house, he never questioned the hospital bed in his family room, he never wondered why we were all there 24 hours a day. He just sat and talked to me about everything from Dr. Phil (yes, you read that correctly) to the Cardinals (the actual birds, not the sports teams). And sometimes I would cry and sometimes I would laugh. But mostly I just watched him and was so monumentally grateful that I was his daughter.
... Nascar Hall of Fame, and Charlotte motor speedway. Actually, it was Bec's idea to do the drive in 2 shifts and have a day in Charlotte, so I have to thank her for thinking outside the box on that one.
We managed to split the driving pretty much 50/50 today so we are both a little road weary. No photos either. Photo's of being between 2 semi trailers on the interstate don't make for good viewing. I can assure you that tomorrows photos will make up for the lack of shots today.
This is where we begin our adventure. Our home is in Charlotte. We do leave behind our two girls, their husbands and the three grandchildren, Jeremy, Kaitlyn and Riley. We also leave behind two adorable step grands...Britney and Dillon. We will miss all of them terribly.
