Split - quiet but good weather

... day and the first day I've worn thongs since Bruges!!!!
Walked to the beach and waded in the water but too cold to go swimming.
Went to Fife for dinner which was recommended by Peter from the hostel and also the barman on Friday night as the best place in town to get good local food at local prices.
Had an awesome meal of Sarma (mince wrapped in cabbage leaves) and Fozol - bean and ham dish.

Sunday went to market ...

What we thought would be a vacation...

... were stepping off the ferry, hoards of people were shouting to us, “Do you need accommodation?!” It was all the locals who have sobes. They all wait at the ferry dock to “attack” tourists when they are walking off the plank. We then had to choose between three different people who had gotten to us, all trying to convince us to rent their place simultaneously. It’s really hard to listen to three Croatians who barely ...

... the town just around the bend and there is a promenade that we are looking forward to walking along…we are also hoping for some seafood for dinner!

This campsite is along the coast of Croatia just before the bigger town of Split. Yesterday, we drove from our campsite near Zadar along the coast for a couple of hours and found this spot…we wanted something that was close to a small town and also to Split, but ...

Planes, trains and automobiles..... Part 1

... We confirmed the departure time of the bus and went into town to get some breakfast. We met a girl from Australia who was also trying to catch the bus for the airport. She joined us for breakfast by the pier before she decided to head off and do her own thing. I guess we were just not that interesting for her! We caught our bus at 11:30am to the airport and managed to spend the rest of our Croatian money on food and snacks.

Diocletian's Palace, circa 300AD

... the time of Julius Caesar until 615 AD. Roman Emperor Diocletian decided to build a seaside palace in Split, near his birthplace, for use after his retirement. Construction of this oceanfront 322,000 square foot complex took ten years, from 295 to 305 AD.

Diocletian (245-316 AD) was known for reforms that changed the structure of imperial Roman government. He stabilized the Empire economically and militarily, which helped maintain it for another 150 years. Diocletian ...

We are confused with the money - kune in croatia, marks or kune in bosnia!! anything goes!
After this we head to Dubrovnik to get a tan- I imagine we will look like beached whales when we finally get into our togs-swimmers.
1. Food - great what can I say about countries that serve cheese for breakfast. Pita and Burek win though!!
2. Cheese - well as I said ...

... on us. I just would have felt bad to walk away from her when she was so keen to have us stay. Once again the weather was amazing so we were always walking in sunshine. As we arrived on a Sunday, there was nothing to do and nothing to see but on Monday the town came alive. There was a massive fruit & vege market just around the corner from where we stayed so once again we bought ingredients for a picnic lunch. One ...

A Holiday from it All...

One Thursday morning, we decided that we needed a holiday from all this traveling. It was getting to be exhausting. So, we took a big cruise-boat-like ferry boat over to Hvar Island and spent the next four days working on sun-tans and swimming in the Adriatic sea. The weather was absolutely perfect. Sunny, blue skies and 25-30 degrees C everyday and the water was clear and warm, much warmer than we'd expected! (Hvar is said to have 2724 hours ...
