... a 7:15 take-off, a 9 hour flight, and a noon arrival in Rome. Phew! In between take-off and landing, we could watch three movies (we didn't), eat two meals (we picked through them), and sleep a few hours (we tried). Some day we will try to afford business class where you can actually recline fully on an overnight flight. About mid-flight, the thought of stretching out flat to sleep sounded heavenly. We survived, as have so many travelers before us, ...

... and sauce were delicious! In addition, we had a buffet of 30 regional appetizers, beef in a white wine thyme sauce and amaretto parfaits for dessert - and, of course, vino flowing freely!

I sported my Happy Birthday ribbon and received many good wishes and a beautiful rendition of the birthday song from the Olivia ladies! This was truly a memorable celebration of the 19th anniversary of my 39th ...

... catch the H bus, but we waited for about 30 to 40 minutes..... and it never came. We didn't know if they canceled it because it was getting late, so we just took the 3B bus that took us to the Metro. Since it was dark ( like the blind bats we are ) the adults couldn't see where we were, and I can't read Italian signs and know where to get off. At one stop, we were sure we ought to get off... But we didn't see the Metro station anywhere. The ...

... at the small note and present I'd left on the table in Davide's apartment for his return from Milan. Knowing that I was about to fly out of the EU, I had left what little food I had in his flat, including a small taste of Australia that I was sure he would find amusing and nostalgic. The little pot of Vegemite that I had bought in Ireland needed a new owner, and I couldn't think of a more fitting candidate than the young man who had come to stay with us all those years ago.
