    ... ll do’ to the first plain band ring she showed me. Then came a question I was not expecting. ‘What size sir?’

    “What do you mean what size?” Who in their right mind knows the ring size of their partner? I had no idea. The lady showed me a 7 and said it was the standard fit. Rach has skinny witch-like fingers so I took a punt and asked for a 6. Fingers crossed that was right.

    ... better. We learned about the town bakery and that their bread was coveted here. It could have been that there were large salt banks surrounded Ostia and the salt added flavor to the bread. We also saw the store that I wrote about in a previous blog. Rebecca, our guide, told us that above the store was a brothel. What else could a man need besides a snack and prostitution?

    ... are always mob-handed and commandeer space and privilege. The English wait for a limited time and then give in to the urge to stick out an elbow, walk wide or just push/shove/kick surreptitiously.     ... I finally saw the work that made Michelangelo famous as a sculptor, The Pieta. Katarina told us it is now behind bulletproof glass because in 1972 a mad sculptor came to destroy the statue because he didn't want to compete against Michelangelo's famous work, so he took a hammer and chisel to it in twelve places before he was finally subdued. We still had a long trip back to port so we had to keep moving. There has to be a next time.
