Many moons ago on The Forest High band camp were on the Las Vegas strip laughing at the gondola men on the fake lake at The Venetian casino. Little did I know that one day I would be in Venice enjoying the real thing and yes there are lots of gondolas and lots of water. Venice is literally a floating city and because of this navigation is very tricky at times. You all know how directionally challenged I am and Venice tested me to the extreme. The ...

... Very high end Mont Blanc, Zara, etc and what were lovely were the shop signs including the one for Mc Donald's! In our travels we came across St Peter's Church and Cemetery. Lovely ornate type of grave markers and rather unusual catacombs!

A full day was the Sound of Music Tour. For a full report on this day see the next blog. It was worthy of an entry of its own!

The next day was again a day of train and bus travel so off we set.

With an early start from Munich, we boarded a train to Salzburg, Austria. Although it was drizzling, we were able to make the most of the day and explore this beautiful city. With the train station being a few miles from the heart of the city, we were able to stroll along the Salzach River and explore many of the local vendors along the river.

The walkway along the river brought us directly to the Old Town (Alstadt). The main street (Getreidgasse) held many different shops ...

... view of the Fortress. Minutes before our arrival, my ex-colleague Axel had just texted us about dinner. We made arrangements to meet him at the brewery nearby. After a long drive, Brian did not want to get in the car again, specially if he was going to drink beer. However it was about to rain and I didn't want to walk the mile and a half in the rain. He agreed to drive very grudgingly and I am glad we did. Without the GPS, we would surely have gotten lost. Axel ...
