Burano is further out than Murano and it takes nearly a half hour on the vaporetti to get there. The waterbus seems to be moving at an excruciatingly slow speed as it's only 6 or 8 km from Murano. Once you arrive, there's no mistaking which direction to head as shops welcome you as soon as you step off. Venice Wandering
Where does one start in Venice? On a vaporetti following the Grand Canal? On an island outside the main area? Just heading off away from the hostel? After hearing about long lines yesterday, it was off to Piazza San Marco to check out the Basilica. For a long-ish line, it moved fairly quickly, Admission is free though there are some areas you have to pay to access, such as 2 euro to access the Pala d'Oro, a gold altarpiece with lots of gemstones. Viva Italia!
It was goodbye to Switzerland today and hello Italy! I couldn't quite tell you where one become the other until the announcements on the train were made in Italian. In the north of Italy, mountains still dominated the landscape. Train service in Italy is not as punctual as that in Switzerland. Instead my train was 20 minutes late into Milan and I missed my train to Venice. Never fear though as they are actually quite frequent, so I just hopped onto the next one. ...
You can't be lost if you don't have a destination
There's nothing better than waking up to a blue sky day in Venice! I was told that we were coming on the worst weekend because it was supposed to rain and it's the coldest weekend of the year but it couldn't have been more perfect. Venezia.....
... of damage to the island – but I guess it’s all about making molti soldi (lots of money). There were at least four cruise ships in the port, every time we saw them so there certainly is molti soldi to be made.
