Zondagmiddag is het eindelijk zover, de 58ste carnavalsparade van Aruba in Oranjestad. Heel Aruba heeft hier een jaar lang naar toe geleefd. De weken vóór de carnaval staan schijnbaar de kranten vol met verkoopadvertenties van telefoons en gepimpte auto's omdat menig Arubaan al zijn 'spaargeld’ en nog wat meer verbruikt om de ‘feestweek’ de bekostigen.

We worden wel in de watten gelegd hoor! Die middag haalt Jurien, een oud IKEA-collega van Sonja, ons met de auto op van vliegveld Reine Beatrix. Zijn zus Manon trouwt hier volgende week en hij is 2 weken 'op vakantie'. Nou ja, vakantie. Zijn ouders wonen ook op Aruba en omdat ie hier meerdere malen per jaar komt, weet ie iets meer van het eiland dan de gemiddelde vakantieganger. "Oké, welkom op Aruba. Just as the whole Detox thing has been a revelation, so has been what I leaned about nutrition.

Once again I was taking the wrong approach … starving myself and eating only twice a day was not the correct strategy, I now know.
