... we casually strolled down the street, wearing our backpacks and raincoats, until we came to the big, beautiful Himeji castle. Despite the rain, there was still a large crowd of tourists, shielded by umbrellas of every color, negotiating their way through the castle grounds. As we had been bearing the weight of our backpacks for nearly 2 days now, we were delighted to find the storage lockers at the entrance. I was practically skipping up the hill towards the castle, I was so ...
Osaka, Kinki, Japan bridgetbomhack... with detonator, spider, box and head in. Tiny place, maybe 5 small tables crammed in and a 10 foot bar, with a few Japanese people laughing, playing cards and relaxing, that all check out the 2 out of place gaijin that walked in. WTF are they doing here? The bar is dark, smokey, with some good tunes playing in the background and "Wanted" with Angelina Jolie playing on a TV in the corner. I like it. So, we saddled up to the bar like we had ...
Kobe, Kinki, Japan chrisquared... Tonight ended with a dinner with all of our attendees as well as all the sales reps and members of our Japanese steering team who are in town for meetings. There were about 100 people in attendance, representing at least 6 countries. It was nice to meet and mingle with people, and just when things started to wrap up we heard a drum. Well, Jim Domingo, our Japanese director and his band decided to play for us. They named the band, MS-01-Rockband--which is the convention we use to name ...
Kobe, Japan hgaynor... a tendancy to rabbit on and on in Japanese, even though it's obvious I have absolutely no idea what they are saying. Finally, getting cash is a bit of a nightmare! For such a developed country, it's strange that their cash machines look like they have been in service since the late 70's! Bye for now. PS - While it says I am im Kobe, some of the time I am in Akashi..but Akashi doesn't appear in the list of places! They are literally right next to eachother though...seperated by a street!
Kobe, Japan chrisuk07... had to change a certain F-word to make it kid-friendly. Any song that has "pee" and "****" in it though is probably going to be one that they are going to love; and they did so much that they asked me to sing it twice. After an auction, in which the kids could use the class money that they had saved up over the last couple months to buy stuff she had bought at the 100 yen shop, it was time for them to go. I waited outside the ...
Kobe, Japan zombywoof... instance, the male workers all wear shirts and ties and the female workers wear matching aprons. On the whole though, these people are interested and willing to learn and i'm really enjoying work at present. I wonder how long it will be before I get tired teaching in a highly structured way and working for a money hungry company that is no better than McDonald's (my flat mate calls it McEnglish)? I'll keep you posted.
Kobe, Japan andskye... English, where as foreigners can get permission on the day. You have to get permission first and then line up 10 minutes before the 2pm tour. So with Nanami having been born in America and me being Australian, Akemi could get in too as she was our 'guide'. Except we were running late. We arrived at the palace grounds at 2pm and then we had to get permission. We thought for sure we wouldn't be allowed and would have to rearrange our schedule for another day ...
Himeji/Kyoto, Japan tokyo_cate... I get Thai beef with veggies...really good, of course, not big enough to fill me so I order Indian fish cakes with bell peppers. :p After some good food and conversation, one girl says she knows of a good karaoke bar, so almost all of us end up there. The karaoke is very different here. First, it's amazingly popular here and taken very seriously. Also, it's not like in America where you're in front of some bar crowd, karaoke is performed in private rooms with ...
