Known as Aoraki (Cloud Piercer) to the Maori and named as Mount Cook after Cpt. James Cook by the first settlers. At 3755 meters its the highest peak in New Zealand and in the whole of Australasia for that matter. Luckily the weather and cloud held out and I was able to see the mighty peak basking in sunshine.
