They turned on a propane heater for us and we laid down our thermarests and sleeping bags. Marcus' alarm went off at 04:30hrs, and he was quickly up and out. It's been a really cold night. Can't wait now for the sun to come up and to get the stove on. We climb to over 10,000 feet today so hoping for more good weather and more ...

The hot springs is the largest collection of hydrothermal features on the planet. Check out the pictures and enjoy the hot springs. As we start our trip back, which is about a 48 mile trip, a herd of buffalo are walking down the middle of the road and so we wait. They finally slow walk off the road and we are back on our way.

We started out and decided we only had one chance to do this.... so we took our time and we made it down AND made it back up. So fun when all traffic stops to yield to the Bison on the road. One beautiful view after another. A wonderful, unforgettable time.

... makes this even better. That was the one, unpredictable wild card that had been an Ace. I think josh and I have been GWTF too, so all is calm. Driving to Rushmore those Badlands just went on and on. I hope it's something I never forget. The boys chilled out on the beds for the ride to Rushmore. We were able to hit a Walmart and get some more fresh food and other items. Up until 1/2 hour from Rushmore, we had not seen trees, for the most part, since we left Cheyenne. The land ...

... view of the river down canyon. From the brink of the waterfall, we saw a long, steep set of stairs to a lookout lower down across the canyon. Naturally we said, "Let's do it!" We made our way to the south rim of the canyon, stopped to see the Upper Falls, and parked to climb down the treacherous 382 steps of Uncle Tom's Trail. The metal stairs scaled the side of the canyon cliff, making for a shaky walk down, and a tiring hike back out. The view from the bottom, ...
