This region, with Mancos to the east and Durango to the West was made famous in John Wayne (and others) cowboy films.

Our next destination was Mesa Verde. This is a national park and we were able to camp within its boundaries (at about 7000 feet!) They were so bear conscious, you couldn’t even ...

The next day we had hoped to explore the town some more but it was freezing. We both decided to hit the road and head back but not before taking a few more pictures of the hotel and springs. Another idea that we had for the trip back was to detour up to Black Canyon of the Gunnison, but we decided to save this for a future trip (and blog post) of it's own.
