    Wawona - unfortunate timing

We loved the location of Wawona campground - just out of the touristy area but close enough to not be an inconvenience to get to. The south fork of the Merced River runs past the campground, which is lovely. Unfortunately, we were there when they were having some trouble with the toilet block, so that wasn't great. But sh*t happens... :)

It would be great if the shuttle came out to the campground (it doesn't). And there isn't much privacy between sites, i.e. none but otherwise we were pretty happy with our stay.

Refreshed, we checked out of the Ahwahnee, leaving car and luggage stored to take the shuttle bus to the trailhead for the 'Mist Trail' - supposedly the quintessential hike for anyone coming to Yosemite (save perhaps the megahike to the top of Half Dome). This involves a steady climb towards the base of Vernal Falls, and a steep climb to the top. Further above them are the even larger Nevada Falls. They are spring-sourced rather than a function ...

... freezing". Dylan splashes Taya in the water and she does proper belly laughs. These special laughs are reserved just for her brother. Picnic lunch is a messy affair! Emma ventures to climb on a tree trunk which lies across the river. Dylan happily throws stones and fills/empties his watering can whilst running around in the water. This is the life. It's another boiling hot day. We are the only ones here for a long time, until another family come to play a ...
