Link for my hiking progress

Here is the link to see progress as I go. It may take a little bit of
time for new points to be established, but hopefully it should work. :-)

Second Movement

... morning. Still shocked at the cheap prices for food and drinks outside of the big city(s). Dooz just had his second movement - so we are thrilled. He slept like a log last night and caught up today on his naps. Thanks to not being allowed in the park... well he would have been if we just took him. The main gates were open and no rangers. Plus we met a few dogs on the trail. The owners told ...

We made it...

... wow $50 bucks. We sat outside however they would not allow Dooz... he ended up sitting in the front seat looking at us the entire time. Fun parts of the day. It took Kim 24 minutes to buy 2 coffees. We saw a horrible accident U-haul vs tree on 95. After the Uhaul hit the tree is started on fire. We were in traffic for 41 minutes and only covered 4 miles. So far we had great travel on 95 averaging 60+ mph and 19ish mpg. Dooz and I ...

DAY 4: Summitted a Mountain

... and we ate cheese and sausage to celebrate. It was great! We took lots of pictues. Tradition has it that you are supposed to bring a rock from the bottom of the mountain to place on the top. I was lazy and didn't want to carry anything heavy in my pack and left behind a seashell I found yesterday. We didn't stay on the top long, mostly because I was afraid of being trapped on that horrible mountain in the dark ...

Baxter Wilderness Preserve

... fly fisherman's dream. The flavor of wild brook trout is the gold standard among the world's fresh water fish. I will bring my fly poles and a large assortment of trout flies. Maine has the largest herd of moose in the contiguous US. And the densest moose herd in the world. There are twice as many moose per acre in Maine than in Alaska. Our campsite in Baxter Park is at ...

Mt. Katahdin (I Took A Walk to Zipperhead)

... For roughly 3 miles the trail is covered by medium sized rocks. By which I mean, nothing so big that you have to literally climb over it. You can step most of the way up. At about the 3 mile point, you hit the treeline. Basically, the tree canopy disappears and you're hiking exposed to the weather. Also, the rocks get a lot bigger. The first section above the treeline is characterized by certain boulders that have iron bars placed in them so that you can pull yourself over ...

At Wick's End

Well, I went out to the Lower Deck for some live traditional maritme music. (Banjo and fiddle) some Keith's and then joined an American and two Sask girls to the Keith's bar. $2.00 drinks. Yahoo. Well the morning was groggy but too sunny to sleep away. So I left Halifax - a great place to visit and deserved more time but I wanted to see Peggy's cove. The most photographed place in Canada for a reason. Beautiful. Postcard perfect. Also ...

Ledge Falls and Mt. Katahdin

... I started up and it wasn't too difficult, but I could't gauge how long it would take me and if it would be trouble coming back down. Then about half way up I passed a family with a couple elementary school kids just taking their time and I realized it wasn't going to be too difficult. I had left at 10:15 and arrived at the top at 12:39. It was beautiful and what made it more impressive was the fact that it was just like it was ...

Close call with rain and a rising river

... up and it could be a flash flood area. So I loaded up and started up the incline, but the dirt was clay and the rain had made it slippery so I slid back down. I backed up as far as I could and tried to build up some momentum which was difficult because at the base of the incline was a half foot depression in the ground that slowed me down. And as I tried a couple more times I started slippping back sideways twisting towards ...
