Mountain Gorillas

... and they proceeded to do a few songs for us and a dance show. A few of us were even pulled up front and danced. Including myself which didn’t help the case that white guys have no rhythm. But it was all in good fun! Then the elder(58 yrs old) of the village came over and gave a talk about their people. Then we walked around the village a bit and saw what they were growing and where they got some of their resources. Afterward, a lot of the kids ...

Mountain Gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

... flops down flat on his stomach with his arms and hands splayed out towards us, just looking up. He soon moves away, and by this time we have already enjoyed more than one hour in close company with the family and it is time for us to leave.

We enjoy a picnic lunch in the forest with our guide and porters nearby, then climb back up to the road. We are just a couple of kilometers away from the briefing point, so three of us decide to walk back with an armed tracker ...

Gorillas and Game Parks

... feeling of just standing there. Our guide said the day before only one gorilla came out and the rest were fairly hidden but we had all the photo opportunities you could possibly want. The Silverback sitting up, babies playing and catching rides on their mums... it was just magic. For the rest of the day we were on a massive high and even the next day we are still feeling pretty lucky to have had the experience.

We’ve been told we’ve got a ...

Gorilla Trekking

... whole walk out of the forest took approx 2 hours and it was an elated and very tired group that sung their way back to camp. We were presented with our gorilla tracking certificates and Paul drove us back to Lake Kitendara feeling very happy with ourselves.

Back at Lake Kitendara we met up with Jane who had an equally successful trek and treated ourselves to tea and cake and a quick flick through the photos followed by a lovely soak in the bath for our tired ...

The Bakery experience and game drive number 2!!

... Kitendara Bwindi Safari Park resort in Buhoma at 5pm just in time for tea and cake and to be shown to our beautiful en suite safari tents. Tamsin and I were at the top of camp which was a journey in itself but the tents were comfortable and the surroundings beautiful. Following a quick shower and change, being creatures of habit we headed to the bar and then for a lovely buffet dinner of homemade soup, ribs ...

Making our way back to Nairobi

... long drive back to Nairobi. We will drive from here to Jinja before we stop for the night. Probably will be in the truck for ten hours at the minimum. The campsite at Jinja has a place where we can connect the laptop so we should be able to post some of the pictures then. Uganda is one of the prettiest places I have ever been. Everything here is so green and lush. One of the guides we had said that Uganda could ...

... this time we got to dance with the kids. After the visit we tried to stay dry and just had a few games of Canasta then went on another mission of a walk up the hill which was so slippery from the rain (wearing thongs definitely not recommend ) to a place were we could see all 17 small islands around the area. The next day we ended up getting up at 4.30am, packing up our soaked tents and getting back onto our Kumuka bus where we drove for 11 hours back to Jinja.

Gorillas in the mist

Gorillas in the mist, that is what we are off to see....our 5:00 Am departure turned into more like 6:00 AM. We have borrowed a truck from HM's colleague. The reason we are leaving so early is that the drive is around 11 hours. We are heading to the most south western tip of Uganda bordering both Rwanda and the Congo (yikes). And yes... we are driving ourselves... two white girls heading towards the Congo. Brilliant. Apparently this is bit strange as most people ...

Bwindi - Gorilla Trekking

After spending the night at Lake Bunonyi we headed for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest - The home of the rare mountain Gorilla. This was what we had all been waiting for - to see Silverback and blackback Gorillas. Bwindi is a very special place. It is right next to the DR Congo border and very far away from any larger cities. Our camp site was in the little village of Bohoma on the edge of the forest. As everywhere in Uganda all the people was very friendly ...

G-G-G-GORILLAS

Slowly we crept through the steep, dense jungle - pushing past huge ferns and trying to avoid prickly trees - making our own track towards the gorillas. But as fortune would have it, the gorillas seemed to be tracking us. When the guide motioned for us to be still and silent, we could hear trees rustling and the snapping of branches just ahead. Then as if ...
