We camped in Shandell and Tim's driveway. Spent the day visiting with Tim before he went to work. Drove the short 5 miles to Lake Sylvia to spend the night. Nice campground, with our choice of spots. People here are afraid to camp in the rain. Shandell picked us up and we had a nice dinner at the The Rusty Tractor. Isis, the grandpup stayed at camp and was happy to see us when we returned.

Our night at Mora campground was very very dark and quiet except for the rain off and on all night. This camp was really in a forest. Tall big trees. Huge redwood, sitka and spruce. From the map we know we are close to the ocean, just cannot see it for the forest.
I cooked breakfast. Bacon, egg and toast. Rialto Beach was our first stop. Raining in sheets and kind of blowing now. but we didn't let that stop us. ...

A lot of hours on the road today, but worth it to explore the story of Mt. St. Helen, its eruption in May 1980, and the eruption's catastrophic effect on the surrounding area. We spent time at the Visitor Center 50 miles west of the mountain and then the Johnston Ridge Observatory, about five miles from the crater.
