... This is a peregrine falcon. I once saw something on Nature that showed a Snowy Owl who lost a chick. She first mourned. Then she tore it apart to give to the other two starving chicks. In other words survival is THE most important on their minds. That falcon was either hungry (though his crop sure looks full) or it might have been a wayward bird in his territory that he had just killed. You are very lucky to have witnessed this!"

... biggest bike rides in the US. Most people take two days to complete the route but a few of the elite riders do it in one day! The bikes accompanied us from the Longview/Rainier bridge along US 30 to the St. John's Bridge, then I saw them again when they approached the finish line in Holladay Park, a few blocks from my house. Sorry no photos but I was keeping both hands on the wheel to avoid the bikes!

... taffy and a song promising $1 ice cream cones at his shop just around the corner. How can we can’t resist? We all enjoy delicious cones at the Seaside Candyman for the price of a single scoop in Vancouver! We somehow manage to deter the kids from buying any of gazillion types of candy they offer.

We stop in Tillamook to buy groceries and reach Cape Lookout, a bump of land that extends beyond the rest of the coast, by late afternoon. The kids ...

... were used to store hay. In 1993 hangar A burnt to the ground leaving just the concrete end door supports. Lucky for us that hangar B is still standing and is the site for the museum.

When we came out of the museum it was raining so hard it was like a waterfall on the sides of the hangar. Fortunately as we drove back to the campground the rain stopped for a short while so we decided to drive the Cape Loop Road along ...

  • then south on Hwy 101 to Lincoln City
  • visited the Outlet Mall and the Indian Casino in LC before heading back inland to Dallas
