    A day trip to the USA

    ... a bit further south to Temperance River State Park and walked part of the trail down past the waterfall to the rocky shore line of Lake Superior. We drove back to Grand Marais and enjoyed a beer on a roof top terrace listening to a local musician playing his country music.

    All too soon it was time to hit the road back to Thunder Bay after a great day out in the warm September sunshine.

    ... to Minneapolis was rather uneventful, very long. The kids were extremely happy about the DVD player as they managed a couple of Harry Potter movies and the boys resignedly watched Georgia's mermaid princess one too!

    Unfortunately it took a lot longer to find our hotel than we had anticipated, always harder when you don't have a proper map. We were seriously rethinking not having data on our phones as we drove round trying to read the half ...

    ... the kids before making use of the fire pit for s'mores. Many marshmallows were consumed, lots of sticky fingers and big smiles. Most grown-ups had dessert before dinner, s'mores was an absolute treat. We even managed to introduce them to Uncle Richard, who wanted to go back for seconds after dinner!

    ... wilderness area full of campsites and water trails in which canoeists travel for days and even weeks across. We met some a family if 3 generations just returning from a 4 day trip and another group of young men returning from a 10 day, 75 mile trip. I visited with a couple who work for local outfitters and, on their day off, were headed out to an island to pick blueberries.
