Our next adventure took us from the mountains of Oregon to its coast. We headed first to a campground near South Beach OR, about a third of the way down the coast. After a few days there, we headed further south to Sunset Bay State Park so that we could continue our explorations.

Toured the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse which was only used for 3 years from 1871 as it was built in a poor position. A few changes to our itinerary necessary for the next couple of days due to inclement weather. About a 4 hour drive today, not counting stops. More forests of Oregon cypress. Still on highway 101, at times with Oregon cypress on one side of us and sand dunes on the other. Started with misty rain at about Florence, fortunately we didn't want to stop at many places for the scenic views. Arrived at Schooners Landing, Newport at about 1.30. As we headed out of Portland the weather began to look better. After a couple of hours we hit Lincoln City and found the coast and beautiful beaches with fairly big seas. We also found some outlet shops and had a bit of a splurge. Twenty t shirts and 40 pairs of socks later we were back in the car and looking for a lunch stop.
