Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana
We had a remembarable 3 days at Xakanake camp, but now it is time to leave for Third bridge Camp. We will stay another 3 days.
... Kwai Community Camp Site (the camp sight was much better than their road).. they said 15 more Kms and three river crossings to go, just pick the most used looking track and you cant go wrong... awesome.. having done some river crossing it all sounded good..

1st river crossing.. easy.. Get lost on in the labyrinth of track several times.. just as we come up to the 2nd river crossing some vehicles had just gone through and the indicated the best way through ...
Kwai river camp, Botswana harryabroad... miming and dancing happily, while two thirds didn’t know who they were singing it to; so they just looked around at our group with big smiles when they said “happy birthday to YOU. (to no one in particular)” And then it was time to go; unfortunately Gabe and I had the same poler on the way back, but we started out at the front of the group so we were off to a good start.

The way back was shorter and ...
Okavanga Delta, Botswana claraz8... ever closer. I asked if we couldn’t keep going and she said no, she was scared. Then a second elephant appeared and began moving threateningly towards the Mokoros which quickly reversed and moved away. Later the polers who had gotten close said they felt sure the elephant was getting ready to charge. That would have been really amazing.

As the day warmed up we began sweating and the little bugs that clung ...
Okavanga Delta, Botswana claraz8... serious injury to insult, our 4x4 was disabled for two days after it broke down with a busted CV joint during a morning game drive. We were forced to limp back to camp where our vehicle remained stricken until a mechanic was able to come out to make the repairs. So there we were, stuck in the middle of a remote wildlife park with a disabled 4x4. Fortunately for us, we'd been travelling convoy with two other really nice couples who we'd met while chasing lions in Chobe ...
Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana mattersdorffToday we were travelling on our way to North Gate (originally called Khwai) on the northeastern edge of the Moremi Game Reserve. We had a choice of two roads the Marsh Road and the Sandridge Road and we had been told that at this time of year the Sandridge was slightly better. It was difficult driving in the thick sand and a couple of times you felt you might lose the traction and career into the bushes but the Land Rover held its line. We had been travelling for about one and ...
Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana jowhiting... of crocs and hippos, oh and put the spade across the path when you are using the hole in the ground to relieve yourself, just so you don't get any unexpected visitors. After the briefing from our guides I was feeling a bit knackered (I was hoping I wasn't coming down with Helen's flu) so had an hour's kip before we were due to go on a walking safari. Before the walking safari we all headed down to the nearby pool in the reeds to have a bit of a dip and try our hand at ...
Okovango Delta, Botswana shieldsontour... to the airport. in the process we were able to spot a wide variety of game including elephants, water buffalo, giraffes and zebras from 300m - 500m in the air. We also got a bird's eye view of the grass fires that frequent the delta during the dry season. The highlight for me was the return trip when I asked the pilot if I could fly and he let me. For about five minutes he let me take control of the plane to zig zag left to right and up and down.
Okavanga Delta National Park, Botswana pugsly2002... ladies of the village we had visited in the morning. This was quite a treat and we were asked to participate in some of the dancing. So, we donned skirts just like the locals and had to shake our junk just like them, however, being a mostly white and German group, I wonder who really was being entertained, as the locals seemed to enjoy our "display" a little too much! Thankfully this is our last night to share our sleeping quarters with all the bugs as tomorrow we leave the Delta.
Okavanga, Botswana bermudapaul... Sadly, the answer is no. No lions, leopards, cheetahs, etc. I did, however, see two cats that are supposedly more rare than any of those: an African palm civet and a caracal, both of which are small, nocturnal cats that sort of look a bit like domesticated cats. I unfortunately didn't get photos of either. I also saw the following (some of which I got photos of): elephants, giraffes, impalas (sooooo many), multiple types of antelope, hippos ...
Okavango Delta, Botswana lynnea17After 3 days of Bush Camping in Savuti we were off to explore Moremi Game Reserve. The drive from Savuti to 3rd Bridge was breathtaking but ohhhhh so long. Luckily the time passes quickly when you start the drive by passing a family of Lions relaxing along the road. I was surprised to see how relaxed they were with our presence. It was if they were posing for our cameras fº Half way we decided to stop for lunch under the ...
