We woke up this morning to 46°F. It's now 10 am and it is 42°F and dropping... The forecast? Snow. Wind. Colder. And here we are at the Spring Creek Trout Ranch and RV Park. We have the whole place to ourselves... because they are closed for the season! Actually, the owners live here, and they were more than happy to take $25 (cash only, of course ;-) a night to let us hook up. Electricity, only. No water. No bathrooms. No showers. Thank god for the pee powder, right? Assuming we don't run ou...
Big Timber, MT, United States dearmasaJeriann here….
Our car broke down! As we pulled into our hotel in LIVINGSTON, MONTANA we heard the strangest scraping sound. The next morning we had it towed to a repair shop. We weren't sure which repair shop would be reliable so David looked on the "Car Talk" website (We love listening to Click and Clack) and someone had written a good review ...
... old mining town that was once the largest and wealthiest city in the west), and finally, Livingston (known as fly fishing heaven, gateway to Yellowstone’s northern entrance, and home to the infamous Calamity Jane). By the time we approached Yellowstone via Gardiner, I was psyched for my first encounter with the largest and oldest National Park in the U.S.
... and some great then-and-now photos of Montana.
Interestingly, I happened to meet someone from Microsoft who can help H find out what happened to his patent, and also met a fellow rower (I was wearing a regatta tshirt). I saw a friend of mine from architecture school's office next door, but didn't have time to stop on this trip.
Dad stopped at Dan Bailey's of course.
We drove to Livingston, MT to get Susan a warmer sleeping bag and to visit the second Food Works. The first is in Guilford, CT.
We found Susan a sleeping bag that's good to -20F. She was toasty warm that night.
We also saw lots of elk when going in and out of Yellowstone.
We stopped in Chico Hot Springs for a soak on the way back from Livingston. Amazing how many hot springs places we stopped at to soak.
... few animals but nothing like I'm sure we would have seen if the weather hadn't shorten our visit. Also, sadly, most of the few photos that I did take of a few elk, some bison and some scenery, accidentaly got deleted. Oh well.
The next couple of weeks were rather quiet and unexciting, so there's not much to say.
... I wish we could have stayed a little longer to take more pictures after the tour, but it was so very, very hot; the best we could do was puddle back to the car and head back to Big Timber. Today, we were invited by one of the C. Sharps ladies to visit her ranch a few miles north of Big Timber and take pictures of her fine herd of cattle. We had a good time. Tomorrow, we leave for Cody, WY where we'll see the museums and the east side of Yellowstone.
Big Timber, Montana, United States cyrano... meal in it for him if he "knocked" on the door loudly enough... No sign of him since - maybe he'll show up for breakfast. Sorry there are no new pictures - we've been working on getting the blad done and haven't gotten around to downloading the recent stuff. See you in a few... Things we LOVE Down, polarfleece, "windstopper" material, and hot beverages Things we HATE Peeing outside when it's cold and windy The aftereffects of eating chili mac ;-(
Big Timber, MT, United States dearmasa... surprisingly tasty. I don't care for rice, Chris likes rice just fine, but we both agreed it would be better with noodles. Chris was bored with it before getting half way through. It's definitely got a kick to it, that's for sure. The score of 8 is from my 9 and Chris' 7. Things we HATE Getting passed on the road by a car who lays on the horn at us like we're *choosing* to go 15mph uphill!! Sheesh... Things we LOVE Yellowstone National Park and all that that entails...
