As we approached Lander, the sun came out just as we rounded a bend overlooking Red Canyon - which lived up to its name. Unfortunately, the next day there was torrential rain, so we took a drive up into Sinks Canyon (where we planned to climb) and checked out the town.

... we got to know that there are two types of rocks in Grand Teton, Salt and pepper rock and cake rock, which was layered rock. Also we got to know that there is mica in the stones in grand teton and mica sparkles in sunlight.

... 12:30 by the time we signed 43 forms (what form am I signing, Radar?), and had a demonstration of our van's features. Pretty straight forward as most controls are identical to our caravan back home. Ventured onto the road tentatively, and pretty much across the road to Wal-Mart to stock up the van for the next few days with things that won't require electricity to prepare. It was a little sad to leave the Alpine Motel and its very nice owners, but time and tide and tourism waits for no man.

We bolted through Yellowstone without too much hassling with those mongrel ******* tourists, and turned south to enter the John D. Rockerfeller Jr Memorial Parkway and then down into the Grand Tetons National Park.

... Ruby being the friendly person she is, asked where they were visiting from. The woman occupant replied that shewas from NY and began to speak about how much she liked seeing the mountains but everything else in WY was UGLY!! She repeated this a number of times and then explained to us that the cows she was seeing were not wild and that they had tags on their ears.!
