... leopards, always alone, always atop-tree....I just wish I'd been able to see their beautiful face more. We had a simply fantastic morning game drive, with Michael's awesome eye and my 18x optical zoom....I think I may have some good mementos. Again, the photos will tell.
Back to camp, a fantastic quiche brunch later we made tracks for Ngorongoro Crater back along the track we came, with a pit stop for our last Kilimanjaro beer and a wager between myself and ...
... his conversation to show him the stars. Then we brought two chairs out a few feet away from the cage and sat down to watch the twinkling night. A few shooting stars fell and then we were off to bed.
At least we thought we were. The neighboring tent had a radio and they were playing a strange wailing Arabic music and talking in loud clear voices. Sometimes I can’t believe my bad luck in tent ...
... some African guys and they said okay. So I went to it and from time to time the African guys would do pull-ups and push-ups along with me. It was funny! Following PT time, we had another game drive and again nothing really noteworthy like animal blood. We were dropped off at a lodge in the middle of the Serengeti for a beer and to watch the sunset from the back porch. Dam this place was really nice! I heard that it ...
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania travel_lover87DAY SEVEN (Thursday, September 10, 2009)
Red Letter Day.
Breakfast buffet was tasty, and fortified us for six hours of game driving. We went out with Pat and Ann Cashin of Marco Island, with driver/guide Jacob.
We started out spotting some of the usual fare … warthogs, Cape buffalo, giraffes, zebras. Amazing how accustomed you can become to having such animals around you. Sometimes you even fail to call one out to the ...
... few miles away so I guess I get it.
Buffet was better than the first two hotels. Wonderful roasted vegetables and grilled meats were featured.
This hotel also has mosquito netting. They really stress the use of DEET, keeping the windows shut and the netting closed. I would like to have had screens on our sliding doors overlooking the Serengeti. But someone pointed out that almost all the animals out there could charge in. 'Nuf said.
... on the computers here. So you'll just have to wait until I get back to see them. The following day we drove to the Ngorongora Crater, one of the largest collapsed volcanoes in the world, at about 20 km in diameter. Animals can come and go as they please, there's no entry fee for them :), but most of them choose to remain inside the crater because of its permanent water supply and ...
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania jeneggener... it off, he looked again with binoculars and spotted a second leopard in a more distant tree. It was dark and almost 7PM by the time we checked into the Seronera Lodge, which was a very nice hotel with large wooden beams and vaulted ceilings located at the geographic center of Serengeti National Park. I was really looking forward to a hot shower after being in the sun and dust all day but the water turned ...
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania andrewsnyc... There were amazing views of the salt lake and the Flamingos there. As we began our drive it was a little underwhelming as you could see for miles and we were only seeing Wildebeest and Zebra for a while. However as we drove around within the vast caldera it became clear that the habitat varied and as it did so did the wildlife. We often came across prowling Hyena looking for their next easy kill or to steal someone elses. We also came across ...

The next day we woke up to some breakfast and headed off in the vehicle. I have been on numerous safaris and seen many animals before but we saw the normal zebras, hippos, warthogs and other animals. The highlight of the day was seeing a kill or the aftermath of a kill. 3 female lions were eating on a wildebeest they had just caught. The dominate female eat first and then when she was full the other 2 tucked into there lunch. It was quite amazing to watch how fast they ...
goed ...
