Port Townsend, Washington, United States nickster.peteo... it's clear, blue waters and then on to Ruby Beach. There were rounded stones everywhere and rising from the water were rocky columns called stacks. The fog was rolling in as we were there so the beach took on a surreal sort of feel. There were large logs strewn all over the beach and the kids had fun making a fort of sorts out of them. We drove on to see the rainforest and some really incredibly big trees ...
Olympic National Park, Washington, United States amstutzc... from the hotel, we were set to go! I made the mistake of getting a Starbuck's coffee inside the Safeway. Blech. Compared to the sweet nectar I'd had the day before, it tasted like watered down mud. Washington's fresh coffee makers may have ruined my love affair with Starbucks forever.
Our agenda for the day promised a lengthy drive through Olympic National Park, including a visit to the Hoh Rainforest. Shortly ...
... A real, live rainforest, right in the middle of the U.S. (well, not in the middle). This place is unreal. There's an area here called the Hall of Mosses that looks like a scene out of a Lord of the Rings movie. Fascinating. Olympic is a fascinating world of diversity and also one of the more family friendly parks. Hiking trails here are well-established and not too difficult.
Olympic National Park, Washington, United States jwmoles... is breathtaking! We then landed on Medenhall Glacier where a summer Iditarod SledDog Camp exists for summer training. 300 dogs and 13 trainers are spending the summer on ice. It took 100 Helicopter trips to get the Camp and dogs set up. The sledding was a ball! We we're dog tired by the end of the day!
Juneau, Alaska, United States pctravler... neon in Seattle is still glowing as the sun begins to wake up and the early morning coffee shops and bakeries are getting ready to open so the smell of fresh baked pastry and coffee brewing lingers in the air. Before heading on our way, we stopped into a pastry shop called Macrina right across the way from out hotel on 1st St ...
Seattle, Washington, United States joeandfrannie... a new record! Everything will be more expensive. Favorites Since we have been back our most common question has been "What was your favorite place?" It is a *******e to answer because we liked most of our destinations and loved a lot of them. So, we will use this chance to break down ...
Seattle, Washington, United States thetembas... account instead saved us hundreds of dollars because many of the overseas banks who's ATMs we used didn't charge a noticeable fee either. Perhaps other credit unions like BECU have the same no-fee policy. It is definitely worth looking into if you live in Washington. 30. ATMs are everywhere - They are by far the easiest way to get local currency in a country. Some can even give an ...
Seattle, Washington, United States thetembas... says "HELLO GIVE ME MONEY" and again smile when a 8 year old boy come up and says the same damm thing. And they say it is such a demanding way too. Do learn how to do a " Chuck Norris combat roll" Special thanks goes out to the Irish lads for that one. Do watch the sunset on Angkor Wat at the viewpoint with an appropriately named Angkor Beer. Don't take a Tuk Tuk for any long distance what so ever. 3 is the number of times we ran out of money in Lao... even though we knew ...
Seattle, Washington, United States whereskellyWe packed up camp and hiked the Mt Townsend Trail (8.4mi r/t). There were great views of the mountains and Puget Sound from up high. Drove on to Hurricane Ridge and hiked around there a bit. We saw some deer while there. Continue on to Ozette on the west coast as the sun is setting. Luckily there were still a couple campsites left for us.
