Spectacular Bryce Canyon Utah

Drove to National Reef Park but decided not to stay long and carried onto Bryce Canyon through high desert canyons (everything is so dry). Arrived at 7pm and put up the trailor tent (getting much quicker) We found a lovely camp site called Ruby's and managed to drive through the park for a hour before dark. On the way out of the park saw the sign for Fairyland and went to see it. Well it was spectacular like castle spires. Got up early to do a 2 ½ hour trail from Fairyland point. We were luck...

Visiting the Hoodoos at Bryce Canyon

Day 11: September 12, 2009 – Bryce National Park
Miles Traveled: 1015.8
N 37 40.064' W 112 09.554’

Christine Writes:

After over a week in the RV, Charlie and I have the routine down. Waking up the next day after our first night at Ruby's camp ground, I started the pot of coffee with the French press that I lugged over from home. I can’t go without a cup of joe! I usually cook up some eggs or we have a bowl of cereal, and then I make sandwiches for the hik...

Hoodoos As Far as the Eye Can See

Day 12: September 13, 2009 –Bryce Canyon National Park

Sunday Christine and I took the free bus tour of Bryce Canyon. Other than one German couple, we were the only non-retirees on the trip. Our driver, a retired park service employee, took us to a number of scenic viewpoints further along the canyon than the regular shuttle busses go. We saw lots more hoodoos and interesting rock formations.

Later, Christine and I walked along the rim from Bryce Point to Sunrise point. Su...

Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park and Las Vegas

Hi everyone!! We have taken a little longer than usual to complete this update due to the fact Kelly and I have been doing absolutely nothing at all for the past week (lazy bums). We arrived back at Alamo CA last Monday a little earlier than planned. As we had feared, we had become National Parked out. We were intending to visit Yosemite on the way home but after spending 3 days in Las Vegas we couldn't face an 8 hour drive then setting up camp, so we drove for 9 1/2 hours all the way back to...

Bryce Canyon - Land of the Hoodoos!

Well, Lyn and I have always wanted to come here, and now we have! Another fantastic day. We headed out at about 11.30, all packed up with plenty of water and a picnic. Bryce is only about an hour away, and we got to go past Red Canyon, which looked really interesting. If we had more time I'd love to explore there. We stopped off at Ruby's Inn on the outskirts of Bryce, so we could finally get WI FI access and send this blog so far. We then drove into Bryce, and went right to the outskirts of ...

Duck Creek - Moab, The Journey from Hell !

Amazingly enough, we were all packed up and ready to leave Ricky's Cabin at 9.15am this morning. We knew we had a mammoth journey ahead of us, so off we went. We went back to Bryce cCanyon, so we could get our N P Passport stamped, and also stopped at Ruby's Resort, just outside Bryce, so we could cross the busy road there. Wondering why we stopped to do that? It's because there are little stands each side of the wide road with bright pink and orange flags, which you wave as you walk, to stop...

Journey from Hell Part 2!

Ha ha, do you know I didn't realise I'd sent the previous entry! I did leave you on a bit of a cliff hanger didn't I?? Anyway, we're in the deserted petrol station, with not enough gas, but no real alternative but to head towarsd Moab. Air conditioning off, and Lyn carefully maintaining the optimum speed. Within a mile or 2 the fuel gauage dropped to only 8 miles left! We were sweating, and not just from the 98 degree heat. We crawled on, and then pulled in to some buildings just as the guage...

Hoodoo Gurus

We packed up and reloaded Charlie in preparation of visiting to Bryce Canyon, but first grabbed breakfast at the restaurant attached to the motel. The Parallel 88 is the new kid on the block, a four star restaurant that would have made for a lovely romantic dinner. Instead we had a romantic breakfast: some of the best eggs benedict I've have for a few years, while Jane & I watched the sun rise over the canyon and chatted about the day's itinerary. Out hostess Jaye told us of a short hike ...

Hoodoo You Love

"A hellova place to lose a cow" ~ Ebeneezer Bryce We rose early planning to grab a quick breakfast at Ruby's before heading for Bryce. Ruby's is in Bryce Canyon City, a newly incorporated town that is basically Ruby's Inn. There is Ruby's Inn, Ruby's RV Park & Campground, Ruby's Lodge, Ruby's General Store, their buffet restaurant and fast food "diner", and across the street is a Western movie set boardwalk with more stores selling t-shirts and ice cream that probably also belong to Ruby....

Bryce Canyon

A cooler morning, 55deg but still sunny. Honest I'm not making this weather up! Not far out of Springdale we turned up into Zion Canyon, a 15 mile road to a dead end at the head of the canyon. The area had been growing steadily greener but we were not prepared for the woods that flanked the 'Virgin River' in this vertically sided narrow valley. It was an impressive mix of green caged in by towering sandstone. The early settlers called this place Zion because, after the deserts, it was the clo...
