... more and more cameras were pointing towards the ground as attempts were made to capture shots of the chipmunks who skittered around and begged for food on the surrounding wall. Typical Brits, faced with wonderous beauty, they're obsessed with the local rodent population. I'd like to say that we hiked around the lake with Annie the park ranger, but the coach stopped at strategic points and decanted us for photo opportunities.

We left Grants Pass, Oregon at 7 this morning and as we were looking for a Starbucks in town we came upon the warehouse and show room for fire mountain gems, my all time favorite on line site to buy my beads! Well I got so excited, for who doesn't need beads when you are a jewelry maker! But wait the parking lot is empty, maybe we are just here to early right? ... Gold Bluff Beach"....I tell Justin, they must be down there! Let's go! So we set out on an unpaved, uphill road in the Corolla.....this was maybe not my brightest idea, I admit.....but we kept felt like 10 miles of unpaved rutted out narrow winding riad until we got to a kiosk to enter the park.....for which we waited in line and paid $8. We thought, this beach must be spectacular or else no one would make that drive. WRONG! LOL, it was surely nothing special and crowded ...

... place just beyond the tunnel that normally hadpsrk information and touristy stuff, but being Columbus Day it had already closed down for the season. Lucky for us this meant fewer "flatlanders" to deal with. Dad found the first big tree..his giant "woody," you know, Harold's son!!! Haha...hopefully Wissy, Pauline or Chris will read this to appreciate that one!

... it was but it has been renovated and makes an interesting side trip.

We left the log house and joined the Avenue of the Giants travelling along the original US route 101. First up was a brief stop at the Visitors Centre which had some excellent displays of both the man made and natural history of the area
