... movie, we were ready to tackle the loop road. Crater Lake is set up like a number of parks, with a 35 mile loop road around the entire lake. This is a rim road, and we went clockwise, so a lot of times there is a steep drop off down the mountain on the left, and sometimes, a steep drop off to the right into the lake. And of course, there are times when it drops off on both sides. so, needless to say, it was a very exhilarating ...

... on our own barrel braai washed down with the usual glass of red wine – a nice way to finish a fun if tiring day’s drive.

Next morning before departing we walked along the beach a bit, had a look at the old lighthouse that local volunteers had moved from its defunct site up the coast and restored before relocating it on its own grassy patch next to the camp site. We bought some charcoal at the local store but

... to get right up close to a tree with a larger diameter than our van! I nearly lost my bearings down the dropoff since I got out of the van so fast I had my sandals on with my socks. It hardly mattered! I was too busy craning my neck, stopping only for the occasional drool wipe. We took a few shots, one was of my sandal wedged into the bark for scale.
