On Patagonia

Currently we sit in Colonia de Sacramento in Uruguay, north across the river from Buenos Aires. Since our last entry we have traveled all the way from Puerto Iguazu (further north on the Brazilian border) way down south to the (very nearly) bottom of Argentina, west across into Chile, then back north and east halfway up the coast to Puerto Madryn, then all the way north to Buenos Aires, and then finally here. We flew down, but then took bus after bus, after bus, plus several days of trekking ...

Torres del Paine

Hola,

Torres del Paine, Feet of Pain

... hustling' a pace as I could muster.

Anyway, after much huffing and puffing, I finally lumbered into our first campsite, Refugio y Capamento Chileno (http://www.cascada-expediciones.com/im ages/mapas/mapatorres.jpg). There, after setting up my new tent (which is thankfully really simple), I cooked up some dinner with Andreas, then packed in to sleep. At 4 am the following morning, I woke up to start an early day; from Chileno, we would hike 6 km up to the scenic ...

Hiking, Camping and Snow -- Oh My!

... we had the afternoon to sit by the fire and dry our stuff before we headed back on the ferry to the otherside of the park and our next campsite.

After we settled into our new campsite (private campsite just for us!) we had a lovely dinner prepared and played cards before another night in our tents with HUGE gusts of wind all night. I was hoping that our campsite manager had knocked the tent pegs in all the way or we would have blown away!

The next day we drove further into ...

Torres del Paine: Worth the pain(e).

... and food for what will be a 55km hike over the course of the next 3 days. -- As we rest along the rumbling river that flows from an imaginitive origin, we are soon to pack up and continue in our search for campsite #1 at the base of the Torres.

By 4pm we arrived to our first campsite. We were comfortably placed alongside a babbling brook that made you feel as if you were listening to a CD recently purchased from Bed Bath and Beyond. Camp was quickly set up and bags tossed aside so ...

Torres Del Paine, campfires and the works

... blue, silver and white colour, it was about 15 metres high and bits of it were breaking off into the river - but again it was freezing, until they gave us a pisco sour, a delicious peruvian drink that soon warmed us up! And yesterday I went horseriding with the gauchos in the national park. Was one of the best experiences of my life! Imagine horseriding in one of the worlds most beautiful natural parks with nothing around except you and a ...

The Towers of Paine

... found and kept aside my sunglasses thankfully. Now we had to hitch all the way back to Laguna Amarga. It was 3 pm and the next scheduled bus back wouldn´t leave until 6. We managed to get a lift from a touring German couple halfway back to Refugio Pudeto (where they were getting a boat); but this left us waiting at a high-pass in widy conditions for half an hour. Poor Angela was freezing at this point as we munched on crisps - and I had to score some ...

... because it is in the shape of a W. It took me 4 days to do and was fantastic. The first day my dad and I met some Welsh girls at the base of the Paine Towers...Jenny and Ann Marie. They were doing the same route at the same time, so it was quickly decided that I would continue my hiking with them once mum and dad went onwards to Santiago. What surprised me about Torres del Paine was the wind. It was very unpredictable..it would gust up ...
