The long haul home

... thoroughly searched and although I had gobbled up all the fresh produce I had in anticipation I had forgotten that honey was also prohibited so my almost full jar was confiscated, not that I could have gobbled that down before reaching the check point. I had considered stopping here at Eucla for the night but the camp site did not look very inviting so setting my watch back 2½ hours to take account of the different time zone I continued for another hour or so until ...

Day 19 - Port Augusta to Port Pirie

... Burra tomorrow - a 120km ride.

We stopped at a nice parking bay after about 50kms for morning tea - amongst some trees next to a railway line with the Finders Ranges as the backdrop.

We were met by some riders from the Port Pirie Cycling Club about 20kms out, who accompanied us into town. We were also greeted by the famous Wally on his old BMW motorcycle - apparently he always does this for Bike for Bibles rides going through Port Pirie. He really is a character ...

There were a lot of kids for Liam & Jye to play with and they did not want to leave the next day for Adelaide to see the family. We only convinced them because we had cousins they had not met to play with in Adelaide which they were excited about.

Day 22-23 Melrose, Flinders Ranges

... was happy wandering the path. We returned to the car some 1 ½ hrs later to find the passenger car window completely down, but car locked (max was in front with Greg), luckily again, nothing was taken. We had brekkie and packed quickly for a longish day travelling to Tumby Bay. On the way to Tumby we visited Port Augusta, Whyalla for lunch at the foreshore. We had a rest and revive stop, i.e cold beer for Greg and ice-creams for us at Cowell then on to Tumby Bay arriving around 6.30pm.

... after they started hooning round in their cars. Unfortunately his influence did not extend to the rest of the township where there were three separate fights that night, due to heat, alcohol and the fact that the town policeman was on leave (on New Year's eve!) . However we did get a distant view of Port Pirie's fireworks and were toasted with many tinnies, wrapped of course in Andy's new souvenir Port Germein stubby holder to keep the beer cool.

We then ...

...but first A small taste of the wine country, and two places. Jacob's Creek, and Seven Hills Winery. Jacob's Creek takes up a considerable portion of the Barossa Valley, which is South Australia's major wine producing region. Let me just say, it is absolutely gorgeous. And that I could really get used to the whole wine tasting thing - I think the Turnbull's were on to something! After trying our tongue at a couple ...

Hello from Berri!

... a granola bar. Some students don't bring lunch. Some families can't afford to send lunches with their children and I'm not sure there is a free lunch program like we have in the States. Kids are really into sports here. Girls play netball, which is similar to basketball. Boys play Aussie Rules football, or footy, which is not at all like football in the U.S. J.D. and I are walking everywhere...about 3 miles every day! Prayer Requests ...
