Barbara, but it's much more American than SB was, but it has a pier and an the right time of year, the migrating whales, just go up and down the coast, just off shore. Lunch today is in a genuine American dinner and it's again gorgeous, you just don't have bad meals over here, but it's so easy to over eat......back at the hotel we spend some time at the pool ...

... we now knew what to look for although photographing them proved tricky. AND we saw elephant seals lying out sleepily having a lazy Sunday afternoon nap on their own beautiful beach. This was a totally unexpected bonus. We pressed on to Pismo - a lovely holiday resort (compared to Southend by some in the party...but in a good way) with 8 miles of the finest sand I have seen in a long time - buckets and spades and building fortress america beckons ...

The lady was Indian at reception so Peter asked her if there were any good Indian restaurants around & she said yes back in San Luis Obispo, too far - she let us put the bikes in the laundry room. After a quick ...

... living stretching all the way to the outskirts. There’s no wild, deserted, desolate beauty about Tonopah. “Is Tonopah on the edge of nowhere?”, I ask Mrs Henry. “No”, she says, “it’s in the middle of nowhere too.”

Mrs Henry and I are moving off the Colorado Plateau. We’re moving south. We’re moving west. We’re on the run from winter. We’re acting like northern ...

... 2. So if you are trying to decide whether to visit Carmel, do it for an afternoon. But we had to hit the road to start the scenic coastal drive!

So...off to the coast! What a beautiful drive. We started off stopping at every look-off, but if you did that, you'd be two days doing it all. We had planned to stop in Big Sur, but we drove thru and there didn't seem to be much there...we kept waiting for a big town...maybe it's more ...
