Had a perfect travel day yesterday. Actually got away early, 8:45, and had beautiful cold clear weather all day. It was only once we got close to Portland that we saw any snow at all and there it was only deep in the bush. But shortly after we stopped for the night the snow started. It looks like we got about 3" overnight. Luckily we're heading south! Had great Chinese food last night. Who knew we'd find it in Maine! Here's what morning looked like - winter ...

... chose a place to watch the fireworks and watch 15 minutes of some of the best ones we've ever seen.

Once finished around 100,000 people all of a sudden started leaving the park in every direction and we quickly realised the original plan of catching the subway to Hanover street for dinner would not be the best idea.. Especially as they were now all free. We decided to walk the estimated (by me) 1km walk to the restaurant we had chosen for NYE ...

... The tour itself, without the added excitement was pretty boring. The highlight was a hidden staircase which was kind of cool. After our awesome tour we decided to escape Salem as the 'witch' like attractions looked cheesy at best and borderline offensive at worst. The one interesting museum was closed, so we headed up the coast. Exploring up the coast we drove through some very cute little towns with the gorgeous wooden houses, but didn't feel the need to ...

... but not at a stand still like it was last year. We will be making a rest stop soon for coffee and snacks, as we will not be having a dinner stop. It was decided to carry on to the hotel in Portland, and everyone can either eat at one of the nearby restaurants there or order in pizza. I think we will be ordering in, as our morning wake up call will be once again at 5:30 as the bus leaves at 7:00 for home. It wouldn't be so bad, except the clocks go ahead one hour tonight ...
