... got them off the ground and standing, the wind pushed them around until they had to give up and let them fall back to the cold ground.

This continued for a while, with random balloons getting inflated, causing the anxious crowd to cheer loudly, only to fall down minutes later. No balloons would fly today. Try as we might, we cannot control the whims of Mother Nature.

And so the farewell mass ascension did not happen.

... there, we drove around the town and took photos of the painted murals. It was some amazing work. Driving across to Albuquerque we stopped at several places along the way, nothing that exciting, but it helps break up the drive. We stayed at Kirtland AFB. The wind was blowing terribly so we sat in the front of the truck for hours and talked about the cold and wind, and had a supper of salami and cheese. International Balloon Fiesta & Sandia Peak

4:00 a.m., breakfast boxes and a bus ride to Balloon Fiesta Park for us. Temperature was 37 degrees when we left so hats, gloves and insulated long underwear were in order. After a Krispy Kreme donut in the hospitality tent, it was off to watch the morning launch. We won't bore you with words - we hope the pictures speak for themselves. It was better than advertised. We were blown away (sorry for the pun) by what we saw. Best part was being on the field ...
