... provide us with much the same attractions at half the price.......and probably more importantly half the people! Anyway we are probably being a bit harsh on the place. We still stayed for lunch and then headed out to the closest beach. These Vancouver island beaches are a bit special. They are miles and miles of flat sand, with a forest coming right up to the edge. The beaches are scattered with massive washed up tree trunks and in the water there are often large chunks of rock often ...

... to the other side through mountainous country, lots of different fir trees and many photo shot lakes.

Next stop was Coombs to walk through the Old Goat Market and stalls. The Provision store on the main road had a grass roof with goats on top grazing. Something very different to see. Bought some bananas and a rock melon for dinner tonight. Found a spot near the Chinese ...

We grabbed some groceries then hit the road and arrived at Elk Falls around 3pm. We picked ...

Couldn't believe how that place had changed. It is no longer a small backwater fishing village but a thriving tourist centre. Who would have thought it!

Now they have new condos, whale watching, cater to sports fishermen new and vary nice hotels in the area. Still rains too much but that's the ...

Whale watching!

A travel blog entry by lmc193 on Mar 24, 2012

... a few came close enough to get a picture it was still an awesome sight! Howie took us out into the ocean and then killed the engine and we just sat and watched them all pass us! I definately want to see a Blue Whale before I die! He also showed us the resident sea lion colony and seals which was a great sight too! It was a great morning. What was special about this trip is we were the only boat out watching the whales, we took the trip at 10.30am and whislt out ...
